Our Tutors


Austin Carter is a recent graduate from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Mathematics Education. He began with Newpoint Learning Center in May of 2010, and primarily helps students with SAT preparation, ACT preparation, and mathematics subject tutoring. Austin is currently on faculty with Lake Norman High School in Mooresville, North Carolina. His additional interests include drums, golf, movies, gadgets, and landscaping.

Michael Culbreth works at Harris Road Middle School where he teaches Algebra & Pre-Algebra and is the chair of the 8th grade math department. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University and is currently working towards his Masters Degree in School Administration through Gardner-Webb University. He has worked at the Davidson Center since 2005 as a math tutor and summer middle school program teacher.

Carla Fassbender has a Bachelors degree in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She joined New Point Learning Center in 2004 andhas worked with studentsto help themimprove study skills and has tutored all levels of Spanish. She enjoys helping students prepare for their final exams in Spanish and preparing them for success in high school and beyond.

Melody Hammon is a sixth grade Science and Social Studies in Mooresville, NC. She received her Bachelor of Arts in middle grades education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with an emphasis in Math and Science. Melody has taught all levels of middlle school math including Algebra I and Geometry. She has been with NewPoint Learning Center for one year, mostly tutoring middle and high school math as well as SAT preparation.

Dawn Kolodziej is certified in Spanish and French (K-12). She began teaching with the Davidson Center in 2007. She graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. Currently a Spanish teacher at South Iredell High School in Troutman;Dawn has studied both in France and in Spain. She resides in Denver, NC with her husband, Ron and sonRonnie.

Jennifer Loskey is a math teacher at William A. Hough High. She previously taught math at North Meck for 6 years. Jennifer holds a Master degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix and an undergrad degree in Integrated Mathematics. Jennifer began working for The Davidson Center in 2006 and has also continued with the company since it has made its transition to Newpoint Learning.

Judy Martin was hired as the very first tutor by The Davidson Center for Learning in January 2000 and has continued working until the present as the company made its transition to NewPoint Learning Center. Judy, who retired from Charlotte Mecklenburg School's Mountain Island Elementary in May 2009, specializes in elementary reading and writing and has also tutored in Spanish. She is certified in Orton-Gillingham Curriculum and has hundreds of hours of training in other specialized reading and writing programs.

Dr. Candice Meyer holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration with a minor in Curriculum and Instruction; an M.S. in Reading; an M.S. in Educational Administration; and a B.A. in Art Education. She has experience teaching children, adolescents, and adults from emergent reading to college preparation. She has 25 years of experience as a reading specialist in public education; 2 years of experience as a reading research associate at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; and is presently a reading instructor at Central Piedmont Community College. She assists NewPoint students with all levels of reading, GED, and SAT preparation.

Katie Morrison is a National Board Certified teacher in Mathematics and holds a Masters of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix. She began working for The Davidson Center for Learning in May 2000 and has also continued with the company as it has made its transition to NewPoint. Katie is the head of the Math Department at North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, North Carolina and assists NewPoint students with tutoring in math and with math SAT preparation.

Hollis Owens is a math teacher at Mooresville High School. She has been teaching and tutoring for 7 years and is currently working on her Masters Degree at Gardner-Webb University. Hollis began working for the Davidson Center in 2004 (Please check on this) and has continued with the company as it has made its transition to NewPoint. She specializes in tutoring math in grades 6-12 and SAT Prep.

Mike Sutton grew up in northeastern North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1971 until 1977 and was a crew member of the attack submarine USS Seadragon SSN 584, stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI, from 1973 until 1977. After completing military service he obtained B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mike has taught mathematics and statistics at four and two year colleges, and at public and private high schools. He has tutored mathematics professionally and as a volunteer. His volunteer tutoring has been with minority students who were college bound or trying to get their GED. He has worked for New Point Learning Center for a little more than two and a half years. Mike likes to see the expression on a student's face when he or she grasps for the first time a mathematical problem that had been a real struggle for them.
Vinod Thomas is a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and Davidson College. Additionally he has studied at Cambridge University in England, and ispursuing graduate studies in general science educationat UNC-Charlotte. Vinod earned his B.A, from Davidson Collegewith a major in history and a minor in chemistry. Vinod tutors in a broad range of subjects ranging from the humanities to the sciences, as well as offer specialized test prep for the SAT and the ACT.
