Erika Cost: Director of Training  

Erika joined the NewPoint team in July of 2009 as Director of Training. She has over nine years of experience working in the for-profit supplemental education industry.  Most recently, Erika was the Manager of Professional Development for SCORE! Educational Centers (now Kaplan Tutoring), where she was responsible for the strategy, development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs for all full- and part-time field employees.  Previously, Erika operated a SCORE! Educational Center and was responsible for the center's overall P&L and day-to-day operations.  Erika graduated with Honors from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in French Literary Studies.  She holds a Certificate in Designing Instruction from the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD).

 

Mary Jane Freeman: Founder, Director
Mary Jane Freeman was one of the founders of NewPoint Learning Center and has been associated with the company in various positions since 1999. In addition to a B.A. from San Jose State University, Mary Jane holds a M.A. Ed. in Counseling from Washington University, St. Louis and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration and Supervision from Fairfield University. Mary Jane has been an active member in the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) since 1994.

Mary-Margaret Kantor: Regional Support Director
Mary-Margaret Kantor was appointed Regional Support Director in September 2009, marking the start of her 29th year working in the field of education. She came to NewPoint most recently from the University of North Carolina Charlotte where for three years she was a Clinical Assistant Professor teaching in the department of Reading and Elementary Education. Prior to that, she was the founding Program Coordinator of the Southern Illinois University Carbondale/Lake County Elementary Education teacher preparation program in the Chicago area. Mary-Margaret also served as a faculty member at SIUC on the Carbondale campus, Saint Xavier University in Chicago, and Purdue University Calumet and spent 10 years as a teacher and administrator in schools in Vermont. She holds her B.S. in Elementary, Special, and Early Childhood Education from College of St. Joseph in Rutland, VT, her M.Ed. from the University of Vermont, and her Ed.D. from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.

Alison Lavin: Director of Education
Alison Lavin was appointed Director of Education in September 2008. Alison has more than 30 years of experience in education, most recently including eight years with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (North Carolina). She has developed curriculum and planned and implemented workshops, training, and evaluation for schools and community groups in 20 states. She has taught college courses in child and adolescent development, coordinated a family support program that included comprehensive diagnostic and educational services, and served as research coordinator and data analyst for numerous projects. Alison received her A.B. (Psychology) and M.S. (Public Health/Behavioral Sciences) degrees from Harvard University, and an M.A. (Child Study) from Tufts University.

Michael Lewandowski: Director of Business Development
Michael Lewandowski was appointed Director of Business Development in March 2009 after serving as the Director of Student Services for NewPoint's flagship location in Davidson for the previous two years.  Prior to coming to NewPoint, Michael was a Center Director for Score! Educational Center's.  Before entering supplemental education, Michael earned M.Ed. and M.A. History degrees from DePaul University, tutored Math, Reading, and ACT preparation for the Princeton Review in the Chicago Public School system, and taught all high school subjects at Lake Shore Academy. 

Smita Quinn: Director of Products and Marketing
Smita Quinn was appointed Director of Products and Marketing in December 2009. She has over 20 years of strategy, market expansion and product and process innovation experience across several consumer product and service businesses. Smita recently joined NewPoint from Bank of America where she held multiple senior executive positions in eCommerce, Consumer Real Estate and Consumer and Small Business Banking. She grew multiple business lines from inception to millions of customers while at Bank of America, Barclays Bank, Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble. Smita is also on the board of Patrin Pharma, a start up pharmaceutical company. Smita has a B.S. from Northwestern and a Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Hans Zandhuis: Chief Executive Officer and Director
Hans Zandhuis was appointed President and CEO of NewPoint Learning Center in January, 2008. Hans came to NewPoint Learning Center from Moneta, where he served as President. His 17 years of experience in financial services and banking include several positions at Bank of America; President of Chatham Capital Investments, a private equity group focusing on early stage investments; Director at Fidelity Venture Capital Group, with emphasis on US and international start-ups; Vice President with Bear Stearns; and Senior Consultant with Deloitte and Touche Consulting Group. Hans received his B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
