Our History
NewPoint has been in business for over 10 years, and our customized programs help students catch up, keep up or get ahead in school and get to the right college to achieve their personal and academic goals. We have helped thousands of individuals feel better about themselves and their academic performance. NewPoint was started in 1999 (as the Davidson Center) by Mary Jane Freeman as a school placement, testing, and SAT test preparation center.
It quickly grew from providing these basic services to
addressing multiple needs for more complex educational achievement gaps
and to helping children excel . Today, the original NewPoint is a
premier tutoring center in Davidson, North Carolina. It offers a broad
array of services ranging from full educational testing and evaluation
with a Psychologist, Psychiatrist, and Master of Education (Mary Jane)
to standardized test preparation (SAT/ACT), with subject tutoring,
academic and college counseling, study skills instruction, educational
therapy, Homework Help, and courses for credit offered as well. The
center has a well-established record for improving student performance
through a holistic approach to learning that addresses the specific
needs of each student. Our experienced educators actively engage
students to address immediate needs, foster independence and better
prepare them for success. Our instructors emphasize focused, engaging,
individualized education based on the student's Personal Best Plan. Our
goal is to improve skills, build confidence, and maximize student
potential.
As the number of NewPoint Learning Centers has grown, the same philosophy of serving the needs of the whole child as an individual has held and programs and services have been added accordingly. We may not always be able to handle all needs within the four walls of any given center, but via partnerships throughout the community, a network for services is created that offers the highest probability for a child's success. Each NewPoint Learning Center that is added to the family embraces this philosophy and commits to providing all core services as well as establishing avenues to other support services that learners may need.
According to Mary Jane Freeman, "Every child should have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, and our philosophy of, not just customizing, but individualizing a program for each student will make that possible for every student who walks through our door".
